Importance of BreathWork

Breathing is a natural part of our body’s rhythm. Our lungs main function is gas exchange. They function by allowing us take in oxygen-which we need for energy, and remove carbon dioxide-a by-product of the reaction to use oxygen for energy. They are also one of the 2 main organs that regulate our body’s acidity.

It is important to be mindful of our breath; it does so much for us. It balances the body, supports our cells and facilitates relaxation. Breathing alone can balance the body-mentally, emotionally and physically, facilitate healing, grounding and centering. Although our breath has a natural rhythm, when we do exercises in breath work we can open up a higher level of wisdom that resides within the body. Breathwork facilitates in depth personal and spiritual growth, and promotes a sense of responsibility in our growth and lifepath experience.

Breathwork is considered a somatic experience because it engages the nervous system and creates memory and foundation for change within our cells. Increasing somatic intelligence helps us to become more connected to ourselves, to our very essence.

It is important to journey with your breath, experience many different forms of breathwork and find out what fits right with your body and your rhythms.

Let’s begin the journey to transformation, inner and outer health, balance and wellbeing.

Uplifting Breath

This breath technique opens and purifies the nasal passages and lungs. It also can improve digestion and energize your spleen, pancreas and abdominal muscles. **remember to breathe through your nose!
Sit comfortably and with good posture
Begin with a slow and easy exhalation
Inhale slowly, gently, relaxing your abdominal muscles. Allow your belly to move away from the spine.
Exhale in a quick and vigorous movement. Contracting your abdominal muscles-causing your diaphragm to rise and force the air out of your lungs
Pause for half a second, then begin again with your gentle, slow inhale.
Repeat these breath cycles 4 to 5 times, as much as is comfortable....eventually you will want to work your way up to a full set of 7 cycles.

The Grounding Breath

This breath technique calms the nervous system, strengthens the heart, reduces mental stress and can help to alleviate headaches
Sit in a comfortably with good posture
Close your eyes and feel calmness within you
Close your right nostril with your right thumb, inhale slowly through your left nostril allowing your lungs to fill with air
Close your left nostril with your left thumb, exhale slowly through your right nostril until you have emptied your lungs. This completes one cycle.
Keeping your left nostril closed, inhale slowly through your right nostril filling the lungs
Close your right nostril and exhale through your left slowly emptying your lungs
Repeat for 12 cycles

*******Always do these together!

Alchemy: The Power of Change

Alchemy often brings to mind the image of an elderly gentleman bent over scrolls or a work station; this is the romanticized image that was spread during the infancy of alchemy. Alchemy was the marriage of chemistry and esoteric idea’s, since its mysterious birth there have been many schools of thought on just what alchemy is.

Some believe that the alchemists of old truly only worked to turn lead into gold. Others believe that this was a “front” for these individuals to explore spiritual growth without reprimand from the Church. Since those days alchemy has continued to be and there are many routes one can take with it.

The mystery of alchemy is its greatest asset, it drives one to explore, to look deeper and to continue further and further seeking the truth. Alchemy is truly a great model of spiritual growth!

Spiritual Alchemy

Alchemy is a process, one that is occurring constantly within us. As you learn about each of the steps, think back over life and those big moments/experiences. Think about the process and how your felt as you went through the experience, how it changed you.

Alchemy is a constantly moving process, it is a circle and so the steps can occur at the same time. Also know that as you go through a transformative process, it is just the beginning of another cycle. We often do not end with a pure conjunction at the end, this is because Ego is difficult to completely silence.

Ego is part of our human experience; it is also our greatest challenge. Each cycle of transmutation takes us closer and closer! Awareness of the cycle will help you to appreciate all that you have accomplished!

The Phases of Alchemy

Calcination: the fire that sparks the change. Creating the ash from which growth will develop from. Think back to a time when life seemed to just disintegrate before your eyes, that was calcinations. These are humbling experiences.

Dissolution: purification through water. This is where the ash is placed in water and is further dissolved, removing ego from the consciousness. **often calcinations and dissolution occur at the same time

Separation: isolation of the essences of self, at this time there is an experience of opposites occupying one space.

Conjunction: the bringing together of the separate essences to try and form a united essence that is balanced. At this stage the essence of Self is being rebirthed

Fermentation: when conjunctions occur they are often not complete and strong. Fermentation occurs in 2 steps, putrefaction of the incomplete essence and then fermentation. This is another breakdown, sparked by spiritual awareness and desire to continue to grow.

Distillation: a point at which a finer purification occurs, ensuring that ego is completely removed from the union with High Self. If ego is still here, the cycle may pause here then return to calcination.

Coagulation: the marriage of your essence to your Higher Self. At this point, the transformation is complete. A sense of wellbeing, balance and harmony will fill you. ***this cycle never ends, we are always moving into higher and higher vibrations. Like Orobious the cycles never end!

Thinking back...can you see your own spiritual alchemy working through you?

Self Healing and Energy Balancing

Self Healing is something that many with energy healing certifications learn to do.... but it is not exclusive to them. We are all connected and surrounded by the Universal Flow of energy. It is part of each and everyone of us and we can all access it. Whether you are a healing practitioner or new to spiritual healing and development this beautiful technique is a great addition to your daily routine to increase your vibration and balance your energies. It was gifted to me in meditation to share with you!

Self healing is a wonderful way to begin your day. It helps you to achieve your centre, to feel balanced and able to take on your day. By Self Healing regularly you promote a positive mind-frame, reduce reaction-based action and connect to the Universe on a higher level. This technique can be done morning and night or just in the morning to start your day, before or after meditation, explore and practice to see what best fits you.

We will be utilizing affirmations to help you achieve connection and inner balance. Affirmations can be said in sets of three's ( three is a very powerful number) or repeated until you feel they are one with your mind-body and spirit....you may feel an increased sensation of inner peace when they have fully integrated or feel a subtle change in the rhythm of your words.

To begin:

Take several deep breaths in and out, visualize the breath coming into your solar plexus and exhale releasing thoughts and physical tensions. Each time you breath in you feel more centred in your body and each time you exhale you release more of the tensions mentally and physically.

Feeling the Vortex:

Take your hands and hold your respective sole of your foot ( right hand to right foot etc). Pay attention to your body, to your natural rhythms... you will begin to feel a natural energy flow with its focal point at your solar plexus. Feel that energy flow around you, becoming stronger as you remain focused on it.

Once you have established connection to your natural flow say:

" My Energy flows from my feet, to my hands, through my heart and my head. I am aware and connected to my Higher Mind and the Universal Light."

Communication Activation Part 1:

Place your middle fingers one on the front of your throat, the other at the back of your throat in the centre ( throat chakra). Being aware of your communication centre.

Affirm to Yourself:

" I give over my communications to my Higher Self, so that I can communicate in truth within myself and to others"

Communication Activation Part 2:

Place your thumbs on your ears and your middle fingers over you eye lids

Affirm to Yourself:

" The Vibrations of the Universe work through me and connect me as One with the Creative and Truthful vibrations of the Universe"

Pulse Activation:

Use your middle and ringer fingers to find your pulse at your wrist. Sit with the natural flow and rhythm your body is producing. Once you are completely in tune with the flow Affirm to yourself:

" The pulse of my body, the pulse of the Earth, the pulse of the Universe act as one. I am connected to the natural Rhythm of Mother Earth, the Universe and everything else therein."

Third Eye Activation

Using your middle fingers again place one at the centre of your forehead and place the other mirrored at the back of the head. Feel your Intuition expand as you focus on this centre.

Affirm to yourself:

" My conscious self is aware and open to receive guidance and information from my Higher Self, Guides, and the Universal Light."

Removing Blockages:

With your hands held palm to your physical body " brush" them down to the floor ( like you are brushing off some dirt).

Affirm to yourself:

" I release and remove all that is not energetically, karmically mine. I release all energies not working for my Highest Good and send them to be buried and reborn for their Highest Good in the Universal Cycle."

Heart Activation Part 1:

Place your hands on prayer position at the level of your heart. Point your thumbs towards your heart centre and allow them to gently touch there. Feel the warm gentle energies of your heart.

Affirm to Yourself

" I am connected through my heart to the never ending supply of Love from the Universe. Love fills me with inner peace and joy that radiates through me and touches others. I am a beacon of Inner Light and Love."

Heart Activation Part 2:

Open your hands so that the palms face up towards the sky and affirm to yourself:

" I am open to receive the gifts of the day. I am an open channel that allows the bounty, love and joy of the Universe to flow through me, my life and into the lives of others."

To End:

Sit a few moments after this final affirmation. Focus on yourself, allow yourself to feel the inner shift towards balance, peace, love and natural abundance. When you are ready you can begin your meditation or begin/end your day.

I hope that you enjoy this exercise and please feel free to comment with your experiences. I love to hear feedback on all of my Energy Healing programs!!

The Importance of Keeping Journal

I have always kept a diary or journal, I received my first diary as a Christmas gift when I was 7.  I still have it and I laugh at my little girl self.  She was a character with a flair for the dramatic.
I have been following Silver Ravenwolf's 31 day Great Release Program for the last two years, it's all about "out with the old and in with the new" with a spiritual twist written in.  I've enjoyed following it.  This past December I found a bin that contained my old journals and started thumbing through the pages.  There was one in particular that caught my attention and I wanted it share with you.  I wrote this on December 19, 2012:
I feel like a light bulb that has been turned on too many times and is now sputtering and dimming.  Covered in dirt and dead bugs, all the things I have done, things that have been done to me, all the lost time and mistakes.  If I give up I will be forever in darkness, still fluid and moving but never seeing the light again.  Life is a balance of dark and light I have lived and held on to the grey in between, never shining too brightly and always moving with the darkness.
Sounds like I was depressed..... I was...profoundly.  The why's and how's aren't important.  What is important is the ability to express the thoughts and feelings.  If you feel you have no one to talk too then a journal a great way to get out the emotions in a safe and healthy way.  It gives your mind the opportunity to process what is happening and find solutions.
My solution was to remember I have many things to be grateful for and hope is important to recovery of any kind.  My recovery was emotional, at that time it felt like everyday there was a new drama or trauma to contend with.  I felt like the universe hated me.  I kept writing and I kept meditating and I kept moving, yoga was my best friend.
Everyone will have a dark night of the soul but it doesn't have to define who you are.  Even though it may not always be apparent, someone somewhere loves you.  Live in gratitude, hope and faith.  Grab a journal and start writing, you may just amaze yourself.

The Chakras: Healing Beyond the Kundalini Line

Many of us are not only aware of the 7 chakras of the Kundalini line, we are also quite comfortable with healing and balancing these energy centres. The 7 chakra system is just the root of our Etheric self in the physical world, the tip of our complete Core Soul. There are chakra’s that branch out from the Kundalini line into the Emotional body ( Hara Line), Mental body ( Universal Grid Line), Higher Self ( Silver Light Line), Akashic Self (Karmic Line) all leading to the Core soul or Oversoul.

As we become adept at healing the Kundalini Line chakra’s, we are becoming more and more aware of the other energy centres within. The healing goes deeper, until we are able to heal over any and all lifetimes. As we continue to shift with the Earth, these energy centres need us to pay more attention to them and to consciously seek healing for them. The best way to ensure we are healing them is to know them. The human energy anatomy is complex, it is not just a single loop of energy but multiple loops of overlapping energies that all have access to eachother. There are doorways through which we can step through to access and achieve healing, by healing the first layer of chakra’s we can find the cord that connects to the next layer and begin healing them as well.

In the most basic terms our spiritual anatomy goes Physical body-> Etheric body-> Emotional body-> Mental body-> Higher Self-> Akashic Self-> Core Soul

The Core Soul is not the end, it is just the furthest that I have explored so far. So how do we achieve healing all the way to the Core Soul level? Once we have healed the Kundalini Line Chakra’s we must continue that work and move into the Emotional Body Chakras.

Emotional Body Chakra’s

These chakra’s run along the Hara Line. This is a powerful line that runs through the centre of our being and is most present in the Emotional Body. It is rooted in the Higher Self, where is receives energy for the chakras both in the Hara line and to feed into the Kundalini line. This line is superimposed on the Kundalini line and has cords and connections that run between the different chakras. These cord connections between the chakras make up a smaller energy flow that is subsidiary to the main bodies but still very essential ( the Heart Complex System, Throat Complex system etc). The Hara line contains 13 Chakras.

Earth Star Chakra: This Chakra is the deeper connection to Earth. It is through here that we feel deeply connected not just to the Earth but to the basic foundations of the world we live in. The soil, rocks, water, lava etc. It brings in understanding of the cycles of the Earth, and an understanding of how our life cycle and the earth’s cycles correspond. The Earth Star is located below our feet and is black in colour.

Grounding Chakras: These 2 chakras conduct energy to and from the earth into our energy circulatory system. They aid in feelings of groundedness and solidarity in ourselves and our place on Earth. Many of you may recognize these and utilize them regularly ( I know I have been for years- I mistakenly thought they were an extension of the Kundalini Line). They are also a point where the Kundalini Line and Hara Line intersect and share energy. They are located at the soles of the feet and are brown in colour.

Transfiguration Chakras: These are 2 chakra’s that are filled with the energy of movement. They cycle between themselves live the Uorboros of alchemy. They bring you the energy and ability to move along your life path, fuel your creativity beyond the inspiration and inception stage to complete the project or transformation. These chakra’s are located at the knee’s and are a deep rich green in colour.

Perineum Chakra: This chakra is the energy of physical to spiritual. It helps you to transform and understand your physical needs on a spiritual level and bringing your spiritual needs into the physical. This is the connection between the 2 halves of self while we are on the Earthly plane.

Hara Chakra: This chakra stores the energy and knowledge of our lifes purpose. It is here that we place our life path decisions before we become incarnate on Earth. This chakra is closely linked to the Akashic Records and helps us to manifest our purpose on Earth. This chakra is located approx. 2 inches below the bellybutton and is a reddish-brown in colour.

Diaphragm Chakra: The Diaphragm chakra is our emotional purge and cleanse system. Much like the liver purifies the blood, this centre has the ability to transform our emotional baggage and help us to expel what is not needed or does not belong in our energy system. It is located in between the Heart chakra and Solar Plexus of the Kundalini line and is golden-brown in colour.

High Heart Chakra: This is a higher vibration of the original Kundalini line heart chakra. It has a deeper connection to the spiritual realm and provides connection between our physical self and our loved ones beyond the Earthly plane ( souls in spiritual realm, spirit guides, ascended masters etc). The High Heart plays an important role in protecting the physical self and is essential in healing our immune systems. The immune system is highly controlled by the thymus gland which is regulated by our nervous system. If we can open up the High Heart and prevent stress, grief, anger etc and accept compassion into ourselves we will support the immune system. This chakra is superimposed on top of the Heart Chakra centre and is turquoise in colour.

Causal Body Chakra: This chakra is a centre of communication. It connects to both the Third Eye and Throat chakras, it feeds in the spiritual knowledge and wisdom from the Higher Self and other non-earthly beings and then is digested and turned into understandable information through the third eye and throat chakra’s. This is a very important chakra for those who channel or who wish to develop the ability to channel. This chakra is located at the mid point of the occipital points at the back of the head and is purple and silver in colour.

Eye Chakras: These two chakras are the gateway to deeper healing for ourselves and others. Opening these chakras gives us the ability to see beyond the physical and more easily pinpoint past life issue’s, patterns and dis-ease roots. They also increase the ability to heal by giving us the ability to not just healing energetically through the hands but also through the eyes, almost like laser beams of healing light that increase the healing process. These chakras are located at the level of our physical eyes and are silver and gold in colour

Soul Star Chakra: This is the connection or doorway to higher spiritual realms, where we can reach beyond into the Higher Self and bring the energy and clarity closer to our physical self. It brings us one step closer to the Divine Source and deepens our faith

The first step in healing is knowledge and understanding of what needs to be healed. Spend 5 mins on each of these chakras concentrating on their energy, feel their presence within your emotional body.

Spiritual Spring Cleaning: Smudging

Smudging is a ceremony commonly associated with Native American traditions; however, the practice of burning herbs for spiritual cleansing/healing is a common practice throughout many religions/cultures/spirituality around the world.

Smudging is ultimately a ceremony of cleansing spiritual energies. The burning of specific herbs, that are considered medicines, to create a ceremony that will take your prayers/blessings to the Universe and facilitate cleansing of energy.

The smoke is the agent of cleansing which attaches to negative energy and sends it to the Light to be transformed for its Highest Good. After cleansing, the smoke re-establishes the energy within the space that was cleansed and promotes a space filled with positive, bright and balanced energy.

The Tools:

Smudging is all about creating balance. In a ceremony we call in all of the 5 elements to create this sacred wholeness.

Earth:
Medicines/herbs used in your medicine pot

Air:
Feather-this is a sacred gift from the spirit animal which is used as a tool. Make sure you always honour the spirit for its beautiful gift to you!

Fire:
The fire used to burn the herbs and create the smoke...wooden matches are the most natural way to go but you can use a lighter

Water:
Abalone Shell- used as your smudge pot

Spirit:
The smoke created from the burning of herbs which carries prayers/blessings to the Universe. When the smoke begins you will also be calling in Creator/Spirit/Universe, Earth Mother, guides, angels, guides, /Gods/Goddesses, Faeries, all beings from the Light to be witness to the healing and cleansing. Always call them in with gratitude, respect and blessings. These are the beings who facilitate the healing and allow for the knowledge to provide cleansing.

Always honour the spirit of the element you are bringing into the ceremony. As you pick up each item, do so with a sense of sacredness and begin your prayers of thanks to each one.

The Medicines used:
Sage: This amazing medicine is used to cleanse a space of negative energies and provide a protective barrier around the space.
Sweetgrass: Sweetgrass welcomes in positive spirits to your space to fill it with positive light.
Tobacco: Sacred tobacco is used as an offering of thanks to the Earth for providing the tools to create the ceremony. Can’t find Sacred Tobacco? You can substitute with hand picked cedar.
Lavender:  This plant is not only healing it increases the vibrations of peace, love and joy in your home.
To smudge your home you will want to begin in one room and systematically work through the whole house. Do what feels right, you can start from the basement and work your way up or start from the top and make your way down....

Work your way through each room, ensure that the smoke covers ever inch and gets into every little nook and cranny!

For more information on Smudging check out Danielle's online Shamanic Smudging Practitioner Class

The Gift of Self Love: Forgiveness

Why is it so difficult to release and forgive? Holding onto events is a defence mechanism from an ancient portion of our brain. The Amygdala or “reptilian brain” acts immediately at an offense and provides protection by building walls and holding the emotions within them. This action was beneficial when we needed to act on instinct, quickly, efficiently against other predators.

Today this is not the case, we do not need to remember every offense or affront and build walls because the situations are different, no longer life or death. But our reptilian brain does not recognize this, thankfully our prefrontal cortex has developed and now we are able to view emotional situations with equanimity and have control over our emotional reactions.

To begin the process, we need to put forgiveness into perspective; it is about not allowing another’s actions to affect our life and our energy. Forgiveness allows for the release of hurt and anger, provides nourishment to our heart centres and facilitates our self love. It is not about allowing bad behaviour from others or forgetting about the incidents that brought pain; it is about releasing those negative emotions that do not belong to us and allowing karma and the Universe to impart the lessons for the other person as is their job.

Forgiveness is both simple and complex. It is a process that we can engage with conscious decision making and by putting to rest the memories of what hurt us. It is not about forgetting what happened; it is about not reliving the events. Forgiveness does not happen with the wave of a wand, it takes work and effort to maintain a forgiveness mind set.

For more helpful tools on forgiveness you can check out the Forgiveness Workshop on Etsy!

Blessings
